Over the Hill

I'm sitting here on my bed drinking Chamomile tea and watching The Nanny so I thought I'd write about my night yesterday.

Last night was one of my uncles 50th birthday. The theme of the shindig was that whole "over the hill" kind of thing. I don't know if "over the hill" is traditionally the theme of 40th birthdays or 50th (I always thought it was 40) maybe it's whenever people decide they want it to be :). It was a really fun party. I thought I was only going to stay from 4:00-5:30 p.m. but I found out mariachis were going to come so I really wanted to stay and wait to hear them. So I was there by myself, looking like a loner, for a while because my mom had to leave and I don't really get along with a lot of my cousins my age (not that we hate each other we're just too different to get along); and the cousins I do get along with are out of town. I finally just ended up helping an aunt prepare wine glasses for the toast and cutting and passing out the cake--I don't mind doing any of that, I was raised to always help at get-togethers and parties and that's always been what I do at parties so it was a good pass-time for me.

Above: the sparklers-as-candles method.

The thing is, it was so cold! I knew it wasn't going to be a warm day so I wore dark jeans with some camel color knee-high boots and a black and white tie dye cardigan with a tank underneath. I thought that'd be enough to keep me from being cold but I didn't realize the wind was going to be strong, making it feel even colder. I decided to go home at around 7:20 because the mariachi were running late and I was just too cold to wait for them. But my grandma and two of my aunts really wanted me to stay a while longer so I just drove home to change my top and grab a coat and went back to the party. When I got there the mariachi was already playing and it was nice and dusky already and I just felt a good vibe from the whole thing so I was really glad I went back. I love listening to mariachi play because it's part of my culture and they're just so fun. Whenever we hire mariachi we always hire the same group which is really awesome. One of their violin players loves to dance to all the songs he's playing and trust me when I say this: he moves his hips like no other. LOL and that's not necessarily a good thing. I sat with another one of my aunts and watched them perform and heard everyone there singing along with the singer and throwing that custom Mexican song yell :P. I took some video with my phone (my camera ran out of battery) I'm going to post them here, I really hope they work. Beware, the quality is close to horrible but I think it's okay for privacy reasons of all the people you'll see--you can't see their faces well hehe.

It was just a really good party, my uncle was just so happy throughout the night and was thanking me everytime he saw me (I only made the desserts so there really wasn't a need for such thanking but it was nice). I really love my uncle, we've had some really tough times where our families have clashed and me and his daughter have had issues but when I said goodbye last night he told me how much he loved me and no matter what happened I was part of his family and he loved me and he loved his daughter and we were all his family. It made me cry!!! Uuugh! I did not want to cry but he was just so sweet and honest about it I couldn't hold it in. I love and appreciate my whole family even the ones I don't really connect with. They're all wonderful people and I realize I am extremely blessed to have them all in my life and it's wonderful when we can get together to celebrate a birthday and just have a great time.
Well, goodnight. Sorry this post is pretty lengthy, but I hope you enjoyed it along with the pictures and videos.

xo.

Pink and Brown Smokey Eye Look

I finally learned how to convert my videos to .wmv in order to edit them. I had filmed a couple different eye looks but always had to delete the project because I couldn't figure out how to edit them (I'm pretty much technology illiterate); but that is no longer the case :) I have now learned how to convert my videos from my camcorder and edit them! I love me some Mexican food

Yay for Mexican food!!

Above: Medium-well steak with pico de gallo, lettuce and diced tomatoes (salad? maybe just a topping), rice and beans.

Above: Beef and Bean Supreme Burrito (the name itself sounds heavenly) with the salad/topping, beans, and rice on the side.

We celebrated a family birthday yesterday so we went to a new Mexican restaurant in town--not really in town but more like 45 minutes away from my town--and it was just amazing!! I had the beef and bean supreme burrito and although it was a little to hot and spicy for me it was still so good! I managed to eat almost all of it and all my sides which I almost never do.. and the burrito was "heavy duty", as my dad likes to describe massive burritos, so you can imagine how darn good this was for me to eat almost all of it. My brother and mom had the steak and they both loved it and I am guessing their fajitas are really good also because a lot of people around our table were having that... I'm going to have to drag my friends with me so I can try them.
We had so much fun! We talked about me and my brothers and the trouble we'd get into when we were young kids like when one of my brothers drank some cleaning product because he thought it was Mountain Dew and ended up in the hospital, or when my youngest brother hid under the table one night and we all thought he was missing and almost called the police after we looked for him for an hour and when we found him he thought he was the cutest and funniest kid in the world, or how I would cry as a baby and shriek until my parents took me for a drive around the block at 1 A.M. so I could fall asleep (sorry mom and dad). Good times, good times.
It didn't hurt that our waiter was cute... overall, great place and great afternoon!

Above: My brother was falling asleep while waiting for his food so I thought I'd take a picture, but the flash was really bright and it made him wake up and cover his eyes LOL.

xo

It's like Christmas all over again!

So Tuesday afternoon was very cloudy and very rainy... I was completely loving it!! I love dark, cloudy days and what most people would call bad weather :P. So Tuesday afternoon was almost ideal; I only heard two sounds of thunder and I would have much more preferred more lighting and thunder.. and heavier rain hehe.
Anyway, Wednesday morning (yesterday morning) I woke up to some white powder outside my window :D!! I was so excited!! It honestly felt like Christmas again. I just laid in bed looking out the window for a good while and this is the beauty I was looking at:

It was not like a blizzard or anything and it didn't last all day, it was practically gone by late afternoon, but it was just so great to have some snow :). We've been having really warm days where I live (and by warm I mean 60-72 degrees farenheit lol) but yesterday and today have been in the 40s so it's been pretty darn awesome. Everytime I feel like the day feels like winter or Christmas I have a huge urge to watch the movie "Elf" (the one with Will Ferrell). Sadly, I didn't get to watch it yesterday because I had a pretty full day... maybe next time.
Anyway, just thought I'd share my thoughts and my happiness about it snowing in May here. xo.

Mini NYX Haul

Hi everyone! I am so excited to post up my first blogpost! I decided to post up a mini haul that way I can test out putting up pictures and such :).
I stopped by ULTA today to treat myself for completing my first year of college :D!! I had my last two finals today and decided I deserved a couple little somethings.

I bought my first 10 color pallete from NYX's Runway collection. It is the Champagne & Caviar pallete and it is absolutely beautiful!! I originally wanted Jazz Night but my ULTA was all out so I picked this one and I do not regret it one bit! All the colors are very wearable and you can basically mix and match any of them! I will be doing a look using this palette tomorrow and will be able to see how well these on work and how long they last.

I also got two eyeshadows to add to my NYX collection, Copper and Black. Black should have been probably one of the first eyeshadows I ever got but I just now got around to getting it. They're both so smooth and really pigmented. Copper is probably one of my favorite NYX shadows--it is so beautiful and really a true copper color!! I'm so excited about that color.

The last thing I got was a Jumbo Pencil in Pots & Pans. I thought NYX didn't have a silver or gray pencil but saw someone swatching it on a YouTube review so I had to find it. It's super creamy and pigmented like all other Jumbo Pencils and am excited to use this as a smokey eye base.

So that is it for this haul. I hope everyone enjoyed and I hope you all will come back for more. I will be posting an eye look tomorrow and many more looks to come.

P.S. ULTA has most NYX products "buy 2 get 1 free" so make sure to take advantage of that. They also have other brands with the same deal :) go crazy!
